FED: Kosovars will be give money to go home

The federal government says Kosovars in Australian safe havens will be given $3,000 each if
they return home by October 30.

Immigration Minister PHILIP RUDDOCK says the money would help the Kosovars re-establish
their lives and prepare for the European winter.

He's told reporters in Canberra that the government will provide an allowance of $3,000 for
each adult and $500 for each child under 18.

Mr RUDDOCK says those who've already returned home didn't receive the benefit, and they'll
receive aid from the international community.

The immigration minister says the $3,000 allowance is in line with requests from the United
Nations for host countries to assist Kosovars in returning home.

About 1,200 Kosovars have already returned to Kosovo with another charter flight of around
300 planned to leave Australia by the end of the month.
